Halima Naqibullah

Halima Naqibullah has achieved academic success and grown into an advocate for others as a student in the dental sciences program at SSD’s South Technical High School.
Halima, who also attends Rockwood Summit High School, has persevered through challenges in her personal life and come out stronger, according to Kristin Vergano, instructor in South Tech’s dental sciences program.
“She balances work, going to school, and taking care of her household and younger siblings, all while maintaining near perfect attendance at school,” said Vergano. “She always strives to do her best in everything she does in my class.”
Halima and her family sought asylum in the United States after leaving Afghanistan. She now works in the community to help refugees living in the St. Louis area.
“She is active with charities that provide food and clothing to refugees, and she takes people from other cultures under her wing at school to support them and offers advice and encouragement,” said Vergano. “She is an inspiration to her classmates, who look up to her for her resiliency, courage and determination.”
